What is Topical Fluoride Application?

Fluoride is an element that creates a chemical bond in the tooth structure and increases resistance to decay. It is based on the principle that high concentrations of fluoride strengthen the structure of the enamel by applying gel-like fluoride locally to the teeth.

How to Apply?

The form applied in the clinic is the topical form. In topical applications, it can be in the form of gel, foam or polish. It has been scientifically proven that systemic application is not as effective as topical application. Fluoride application is started in children from the age of 3.

The teeth are dried thoroughly with air. Fluoride varnish is applied to the upper and lower teeth in turn. The remaining saliva and varnish are thoroughly removed with a saliva ejector.

It has been scientifically proven that applying fluoride to tooth surfaces is a very effective method of gaining resistance against decay.

Is Fluoride Application Harmful to Children?

The dosage and form applied to children does not cause any harm. On the contrary, it strengthens the enamel structure and provides resistance against decay.
